The single most important prevention technique is daily sun protection. Wear a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB blocking) sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or greater on all exposed skin everyday, year round.

Apply to your face, earlobes, neck, upper chest, back of hands and forearms 20 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every 2 hours if outside, or after swimming, sweating or towel drying.-
Avoid mid day sun exposure. Do not stay in the sun for extended periods, just because you are “safe” with sunscreen. No sunscreen screens out all damaging rays.Wear protective clothing if possible – a broad brimmed hat, tightly woven long sleeve shirt, long pants, and UV blocking sunglasses.

If you will be in the water, use waterproof sunscreen which remains active for 80 minutes in the water. if you tend to have acne, waterproof sunscreens may worsen acne, so use a regular sunscreen and reapply more often.

If you use sunless tanning creams or spray (which are safe and effective “dyes” for your skin for color) remember that they only provide minimal protection. – Do not use the tanning bed. Thirty minutes in a tanning bed equals one day at the beach on a sunny day. They are not safer than the sun. The UVA primarily used does not cause sunburns, but does destroy collagen (causing wrinkling and sagging) and leathery appearance, as well as cause skin cancer.

  •  STRESS RELIEF: Get rid of the stress in your life. Stress can show up in your face, no matter how you take care of your skin. Your face tends to conform to the position or expression that you hold most of the time.
  •  DIET AND VITAMINS: The proper diet and vitamin intake is vital for healthy skin. By eating the right foods and supplementing your diet with vitamins and minerals you can assure that your body will function to its fullest potential. As a result, you will feel and look younger.

  •  Sleep on your back if possible.
